HWA RACELAB ready for legendary Monaco

  • Facts and schedule for the Monaco E-Prix

Affalterbach, 8th May 2019 – The home race of VENTURI in the glamorous principality marks the next highlight of the European leg of the season for HWA RACELAB. Following Stoffel's podium in Rome and Gary's impressive eighth place in Paris, the team now travels to Monaco with plenty of momentum.

As in the previous two races, overtaking will be no easy matter on the streets around the famous harbour. As such, a good qualifying will once again be key to a good race result. However, Gary showed in Paris that it is possible to battle through from the back of the grid to finish in the points with a focussed and flawless performance.

The race will be held on a shorter variant of the famous Formula 1 circuit along the Monaco harbour. A narrow and winding route through the urban canyons of Monte Carlo awaits the drivers on the 1.76-kilometre circuit.

Gary Paffett (38, England)
"I am looking forward to Monaco. It is a special circuit and totally different to the tracks we have raced on so far. We have made good progress with the car recently. The race in Paris was particularly good and it was great to pick up some points. I am confident that we will be scoring points more and more regularly now. That is certainly our goal for Monaco."

Stoffel Vandoorne (27, Belgium)
"I live in Monaco, so it is like a home race for me. I am really looking forward to it. It is always very special to drive on these narrow roads. I know the circuit and have won there in GP2. However, the Formula E circuit is a little shorter. Paris was not a great experience for me, but we know by now that you will constantly experience ups and downs in Formula E. It is important to go into the weekend in a positive frame of mind and to be fully focussed in our preparations. If we do that, we can hopefully finish in the points again."

Ulrich Fritz, Team Principal HWA RACELAB
"Paris did not pan out as we had hoped it would after the podium in Rome. Stoffel's retirement was frustrating, and we failed to put together the perfect lap in qualifying. However, one very positive aspect is the pace we showed in the race in Paris. Gary's fightback from P17 to P8 was impressive - and that despite all the fun and games with the weather. We now move on to Monaco - a place steeped in motorsport history and the home race of Venturi. The circuit may only be 1.76 kilometres long, but it is still very challenging, with the narrow chicanes on the streets of Monte Carlo. Every little mistake is punished here. As in Paris, a good qualifying result will be important in Monaco, as overtaking is particularly difficult here."
