HWA RACELAB presents new Extreme E car
HWA RACELAB is the first team in the new off-road racing series, Extreme E, to present the car to the public. The fully-electric, high-performance Odyssey 21 off-road car will be premiered as an exhibition car at the "Krone E-Mobility Play Days" this weekend. The event, taking place in Spielberg at 28th and 29th September, is one of the largest E-mobility events in Europe.

Affalterbach/Spielberg, 27th September 2019 – After the Extreme E racing series displayed a prototype of the Odyssey 21 at this year's Goodwood Festival of Speed, HWA RACELAB is now set to become the first competing team to present this prototype to the public. The car is travelling straight from a successful shakedown test in France to the Red Bull Ring in Austria, where it will grace the HWA RACELAB stand at the "Krone E-Mobility Play Days" on Saturday 28th September. The event is open to visitors from 09.00 am to 06.00 pm. The 400-kW electric off-roader is also guaranteed to catch the eye during the official get-together of exhibitors and media representatives at Schloss Gabelhofen, near the racetrack, on the previous evening (Friday, 27th September).
The presentation of the car at the "Krone E-Mobility Play Days" marks an important milestone in HWA RACELAB's preparations for Extreme E. Starting in January 2021, the new off-road racing series will feature twelve teams, who will go head to head at some of the most remote places in the world and in the toughest conditions imaginable – from extreme heat (Sahara) and humidity (Amazon) to great altitudes (Himalayas) and bitterly cold minus temperatures (Arctic). As a climate-neutral series, Extreme E has set itself the goal of raising awareness of threats to the different ecosystems.
After ABB FIA Formula E (2018/19), FIA Formula 3 (since 2019) and FIA Formula 2 (since 2019, in cooperation with Arden International Motorsport), Extreme E represents a completely new challenge for HWA RACELAB. When developing the Odyssey 21, the Affalterbach-based outfit, the most successful team in DTM history, can call upon its vast wealth of motorsport expertise. Whilst the vehicle used is a standard car, the teams may develop their own drivetrains. The basic car on display has a system performance of 550 hp (400 kW), weighs 1,650 kg and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.5 seconds. The electric SUV sits on 37-inch tyres and is 4.4 metres long, 2.3 metres wide and 1.9 metres high.
