After qualification race, HWA RACELAB aiming for top 10 finish at the Macau Grand Prix

HWA RACELAB is making a debut appearance at the legendary Macau Grand Prix and is approaching the FIA Formula 3 World Cup main race on Sunday with aspirations of securing a place in the top ten. In the qualification race, Keyvan Andres (Iran) claimed 11th place after ten laps. One year on from her accident, Sophia Flörsch (Deutschland) will start the race on Sunday (08:30 CET/15:30 local time) from 21st place. After a not-at-fault collision on the first lap, Jake Hughes (Great Britain) was unable to reach the finish and will have to start from the back of the grid.

  • 11th place for Keyvan Andres, 21st place for Sophia Flörsch, DNF for Jake Hughes in the qualification race

Jake Hughes (25, Great Britain, #16)
“What happened today was a real shame. There was nothing I could do, the other car was just standing there on a tight turn after the accident and I had no room to get by. Today, it was just about finishing the race in the top 10 and tomorrow is when it really gets serious. But that's what happens when everyone tries to win the race on the first lap.”

Keyvan Andres (19, Iran, #17)
“Getting from P21 to P11 is certainly a good starting point for tomorrow. It was a hectic race. Luckily, I was able to emerge unscathed from the incident at the start. I did have contact with other cars but thankfully I was able to activate the clutch and stay in the race. I was in twelfth place after the accident and I wasn't able to move up any further than eleventh as I didn’t make it to the DRS window.”

Sophia Flörsch (18, Germany, #18)
“The most important thing today was to finish the race and I managed that. After the accident at the start, I was suddenly surrounded by a few fast lads. This was my first time driving with DRS and I will have to get used to that. Now I know what this car is about and I am excited to see how things go tomorrow.”

Thomas Strick, HWA RACELAB Team Principal
“Right now, we are just disappointed that Jake had to retire through no fault of his own. That is Macau, something like that can happen at any time. We just happened to take the brunt of it today. But Keyvan did secure a very good starting position to mount an attack on the top 10 tomorrow. Sophia also deserves praise as she has got used to the new car very quickly in the last few days. Now we have to concentrate totally on tomorrow and attempt to record the best possible result.”
