Formula 3 runner-up Théo Pourchaire given BWT HWA RACELAB seat for finale to this season's FIA Formula 2 Championship

At the final two race weekends, a highly-talented young driver will make his debut in the FIA Formula 2 Championship at the wheel for BWT HWA RACELAB. Théo Pourchaire (France) will take over driving duties in the number 17 car for the races in Sakhir (Bahrain) on 28th/29th November and 5th/6th December. The 17-year-old driver finished runner-up in this season's FIA Formula 3 Championship and - in spite of his young age - already boasts a remarkable collection of titles.

  • BWT HWA RACELAB to complete Formula 2 season with Formula 3 runner-up at the wheel
  • Théo Pourchaire: "I can hardly wait to work with the team."
  • Thomas Strick: "The success that Théo has already achieved speaks for itself."

Affalterbach, 14th October 2020 – BWT HWA RACELAB can call upon the services of another top talent for the climax to the 2020 FIA Formula 2 Championship. Formula 3 runner-up Théo Pourchaire (France) will be at the wheel of the number 17 car at the final two race weekends in Sakhir (Bahrain). Pourchaire will occupy the free cockpit, after Giuliano Alesi (France) switched teams.

The 17-year-old has already won many titles in his burgeoning motorsport career. After winning several national karting championships in France and taking third place in the 2016 Karting World Championship, he made his debut in Formula racing at the age of 15, and again immediately enjoyed success. In 2018, he comfortably won the Junior title in the French Formula 4 series. One year later, he triumphed in four races on his way to winning the ADAC Formula 4 title. The member of the Sauber Academy switched to the FIA Formula 3 Championship in 2020 and took his place on the podium after only his fourth race in the series. In Spielberg, this July, Pourchaire became the youngest Formula 3 winner ever. He won again at the Hungaroring and ended the season as the runner-up in the championship.

BWT HWA RACELAB will complete its first season as an independent team in Formula 2 in Sakhir. The races at Bahrain International Circuit will be held on back-to-back weekends, on 28th/29th November and 5th/6th December.

Théo Pourchaire (17, France)
"I am really happy to participate in the final two rounds of FIA Formula 2 in Bahrain. I'd like to say a big thank you to BWT HWA RACELAB for giving me this opportunity. I can hardly wait to work with the team and get to know a new car. I would also like to thank my family and sponsors for their support. I am ready to race!"

Thomas Strick (Team Principal BWT HWA RACELAB)
"We are pleased to allow such a highly-talented young driver to take his first steps in Formula 2. Théo's talent is undisputed. The success he has enjoyed in his burgeoning career speaks for itself. We are excited about his debut in Bahrain. In recent years, he has proved several times that he can quickly find his feet in a new series."
