Affalterbach, Germany, 20/12/24 – Celebrated motorsport and automotive engineering firm, HWA, has provided a first glimpse of the retro-modern cabin set to greet buyers of its upcoming HWA EVO super saloon.

The new Designfestlegungsfahrzeug ‘Interior Testbed’, revealed today, is a 1:1 scale recreation of the centre section of the car’s body, built to establish design and engineering targets, as well as evaluate ergonomics. Ahead of final refinements to the fit, finish and material quality set to grace the company’s homage to the Mercedes-Benz 190E Evo II, it offers an indication of the key themes that will be found within the HWA EVO when production commences next year.

As with the previously revealed elements of the HWA EVO’s exterior design and engineering, the car’s interior aims to achieve an ideal balance between the timeless, driver-focussed appeal of the original and the comfort, safety and performance afforded by modern technology.

To that end, familiar 190E details such as the dashboard, door handles and four-spoke steering wheel will be recognisable to afficionados of the model. In the HWA EVO, however, these are joined by modern conveniences including a customizable digital gauge cluster, a central infotainment display with phone mirroring capability, wireless charging and a state-of-the-art sound system.

To maintain an appropriate balance between electronics and analogue engagement, the screens will serve as information displays only, with the presence of tactile, physical buttons for functions such as the volume, electric windows, central locking and climate control ensuring the HWA EVO remains true to the ethos of the original.

In that spirit of pure driver engagement, the focal point of the cabin for many will be the six-speed manual transmission, through which the full power of the 3.0-litre
bi-turbo V6 will be deployed. Each HWA EVO’s gear stick will bear a plaque, numbered in line with the car’s position in the limited 100-unit production run.

The motorsport DNA beneath the surface of the HWA EVO will be visible to occupants through features such as the integrated roll cage, fully clad in Alcantara to deliver contemporary rigidity and cutting-edge safety for occupants. Front seats with four-point harnesses and bolstered rear seats with ISOFIX meanwhile ensure passengers of all ages can enjoy the HWA EVO’s thrilling performance.

With order books nearly full, input from customers, many of whom are owners of the original Evo II, has played a central role in the development of the interior design. A high level of material customisation and bespoke options will enable owners to personalise their HWA EVO like never before, with an exceptional variety of colours, trims and styles available.
