Affalterbach, Germany, 19/06/25 – Following the first successful demonstration laps of roadgoing prototype vehicles this week, world-leading motorsport and automotive engineering company HWA AG (HWA) can reveal that a motorsport variant of its street-legal HWA EVO will compete in the 2026 running of the Nürburgring 24 Hours.
Built from the ground up, the HWA EVO holds true to the ethos of the legendary 190E Evo II. Limited to just 100 production examples, the EVO is enhanced to provide a contemporary, ultra-focussed driving experience through the empathetic application of the very latest materials and technology, allied to the most advanced design, engineering and manufacturing techniques.
As the most successful team in the DTM, HWA’s extensive motorsport expertise can already be found within every element of the street-focussed HWA EVO. With any road legal performance vehicle, the opportunity remains for track optimisation to realise the car’s full potential. In the case of the HWA EVO, however, the step from road to track is much shorter than usual.
“Motorsport is in our DNA, and consequently in that of the HWA EVO,” said
Martin Marx, CEO of HWA. “As the first road car to bear the HWA name, it was clear to us that we should further develop the project in line with this heritage.”
With development of the road car nearing completion, the team’s energy will soon turn to the creation of a specially developed track variant of the HWA EVO to compete in the SP-X class at next year’s Nürburgring 24 Hours. Two cars will take part in the race, with appropriate modifications in performance, weight and safety systems, set to be detailed at a later time.
Drivers Roland Asch and Klaus Ludwig, who piloted the prototype road cars during this year’s demonstration laps, will have a hand in testing and developing the vehicles on the Nordschleife. Drivers for the race itself will be announced in due course, with the entries being run by an HWA technical team of mechanics and crew with backgrounds in DTM and other motorsport series.
“During our preliminary testing of the prototype road cars it was instantly apparent that the HWA EVO is everything we built it to be,” added Gordian von Schöning, CTO of HWA. “Imbued with both the legacy of the iconic 190E Evo II which inspired it and the storied success of HWA as a motorsport manufacturer, we are incredibly excited to bring the car to the Nürburgring to demonstrate its full capabilities.”
Fittingly for a project with such historic origins, sponsor Hankook will be joined by a host of exciting new partners and those familiar from HWA’s past. HWA wishes to extend its thanks to all its collaborators including DMSB e.V. and race organiser ADAC Nordrhein e.V., as well as the company’s own employees and patrons for their support and trust.
Further demonstration runs of the roadgoing prototypes will be conducted throughout the week of the 2025 Nürburgring 24-hour race, before the vehicles return to Bosch Engineering GmbH for the resumption of their extensive testing program.
From a production run strictly limited to 100 units, nearly all examples of the road-going super saloon have already been reserved. Those interested in further information regarding the remaining allocation of build slots and chassis numbers should contact the company directly here.
